Incapacitated

I'm currently unable to play poker because of an eye infection which I've had for the last couple of weeks in my left eye. It's gradually got worse and worse and I now can't stand to look at a computer screen (I'm actually typing this with an eye-patch on from a Pirate costume, lol).

It seems like it's some sort of conjunctivitis. I'm onto my third set of eye drops and it seems the doctor is finally getting concerned, so it looks like I'll be referred to an eye clinic this week.

Not my eye, but similar

I have to say I'm rather worried about it. Being unable to earn any money at the moment is certainly frustrating, but if I'm not able to get back to the tables in the foreseeable future then I could have a problem. With a partner and child to support, and a wedding to save up for, having no money coming in isn't really an option. This is one of those cons of being a professional poker player which I always mention to my friends when they say I have a cool job; no sick pay.

I daren't even think about the implications of my eye not getting better, I just have to hope that it does without any lasting effects.

So much for my monthly goals then!

On a more positive note it was my son Clark's 1st birthday over the weekend. It's hard to believe it's been a year since he was born, the year has really flown by. We had a couple of parties at our place, one for his baby friends and one for our families, which went well, and no one has reported any food poisoning and/or salmonella from the barbecue which I was in charge of so that's rather fortunate!

[ ] Today was fun

One of the more frustrating days I've had playing 180-mans. No final tables in my first 95 tournaments of the day, which is pretty sick, and just ran so blegh. Standard variance I guess, just have to power through. Have been working hard on self review and don't feel I have too many leaks. Perhaps made a handful of bad-ish decisions today, but nothing too major. Sigh.

563 games, 2373 VPPs over the first 3 days. Just about on pace to hit the montly target of 5000 games/20000 VPPs I set in my last post. Results for September so far below...

August update and September goals...

My apologies for the lack of updates over the last few weeks. I seemed to lose my motivation in August, for playing and for blogging. I did have a weeks holiday with the in-laws which perhaps took me out of grind mode. I won't say much about the holiday because we went to the least baller location possible. I was lucky enough to have been rather spoilt as a child with holidays where we would go abroad each year (mainly Spain but Orlando also), and as an adult poker has led to visit some cool places (Vegas, Barcelona etc.). Consequently I couldn't help but notice how shit this place generally was! The saving grace was that my son, who is nearly one year old now, had a great time. Also the fact we went with my girlfriend's family meant she could have some time off from looking after Clark. It was also nice to be able to spend some quality time with them, as I left the laptop at home, and was committed to no poker/internet for a whole week (although I did have my iPhone to stop me from getting the shakes!)

August was pretty bloody pathetic for hours put in at the tables, managing only a measly 67 hours. I did have man-flu for a couple of days on top of the 'holiday', but still felt like I majorly slacked. Having watched the exploits of msusyr24 over the last few weeks, who managed to play 9000 MTT SNGs in August (sicko), I feel I need to step it up in September.

My August Results

Although I gave up on my 'Supernova Quest' a few weeks ago because I didn't want it to distract me from just playing for profit, I would still really like to hit Supernova come the end of the year. I need another 70,000 VPPs in the next four months to hit the 100k requirement. Although it might look like a tall order earning more than twice the amount of VPPs I currently have in half the time, bear in mind I was playing on Full Tilt for a large part of the year.

So my "September Challenge" is simply to play 5,000 MTT SNGs in the month, and to rack up at least 20,000 VPPs (I don't like setting profit goals, as I think they can be counter productive). Let's get grinding!
