A change of scenery...

If you've followed my blog over the last 8 months, you will have seen me struggle between whether to play MTT SNGs on PokerStars or Full Tilt. I'd settled on PokerStars for numerous reasons, largely involving games per hour and the GodSend that is TableNinja. Having had a 7-8 week absense from online poker to move house and all that, I think it took me a while to get back into the groove of 20 tabling. Rather than just going back into the 45-man grind, I took some time to experiment around with my daily schedule, and the games I was playing.

After a bit of a break-even patch on Stars, I decided to experiment a bit on Full Tilt, which is where I've been playing for the last week or so. I'm not sure it's where I'm going to stay, as playing 100 games per day is a definite struggle, as opposed to very-doable on PokerStars. However, an average buy-in is possible, and I think the longer structure allows for a higher ROI. I reckon my hourly rate will potentially be quite similar, but I think I needed the change to help freshen up my game a little bit.

The games definitely seem softer. I was quite bemused that I made a fairly decent profit of $300 over 70 games in my session today, because of the fact that I came 1st in zero of them and I ran 200,000 chips below EV. These factors would usually result in quite a gross downswing. Notwithstanding a 'meh' last couple of days, my results on Full Tilt make me want to see where it goes, although admittedly this is a very small sample.

It's almost ironic after making this decision that PokerStars has some big promotion that actually has something aimed directly at MTT SNG players. Consequently it will be another change of scenery as I will definitely be playing on PokerStars next week. This promotion surrounds the 40 billionth hand being dealt there, and they've decided to run special 40-man SNGs for a whole week. It looks like there is $40,000 in added value, but I think so many of these tournaments will run that the added value will turn out to be quite thin. However, I'm hopeful that these games will be particularly soft. If that turns out to be the case it will definitely be a busy week for me as I'll have no excuse but to get my grind on. I'm almost disappointed my 25th birthday falls in the middle of it!

I've been rather lax on the blog posts recently, so I'll wait to talk about my coaching progress and my new monitor in my next post which I will put up in the very near future...
